Changing Domain Soon

I’ve decided that I’m going back to a free blog with no ads. So, my domain is changing back to: morganahorn.wordpress.com

I’m not really happy with my blog anyway. I never really knew what I wanted to do with it and I never know what to say. I’m just gonna keep it simple. Share art and probably music too.

I haven’t been able to do as much art as I’d like but I have managed to play around some on Corel Painter which is what these drawings below are.

I’m hoping I can get into the groove of art blogging again.

Current Art Projects

I’ve been pretty busy with a variety of projects lately. I figured a lil’ update would be nice.

Instagram

After Inktober, it took me a while to decide what I wanted to do next on my new Instagram account. I’m just gonna play around with phone photography. B&W, color photos, filters . . . whatever floats my photo boat. It’s something I’ve never actually never put any effort into, so it’s about time I give it a shot.

My Photography

This is a big one. I’m currently going through all my digital photos from 2000-2020 and working to create an online gallery of all of my documentary photography series. As soon as I am able to start adding my series I’ll be sure to announce it here. It’s a very overwhelming task, so I’m not quite sure how long it’ll take but I’m aiming for January 2021. Wish me luck.

Digital Art

I really like my fish drawing from Inktober, so I’m havin’ some fun playing around with that image in Corel Painter.

I originally pictured it in a soft color palette . . . not quite sure where I’m going with it though.

I like how this one is turning out. I love how those blacklight and black velvet posters look. That’s the style I’m going for here.

Digital Charcoal Drawing of Robert Fuller

Robert Fuller Portrait

Lately I’ve been watching some of the old westerns like Laramie and Wagon Train. The plot, the acting, and the creative use of colors and costume design are really good. Not to mention, the guys are really good looking manly men. One in particular that has caught my eye is Robert Fuller. I was looking for something to draw digitally, and I thought he’d be a subject that could keep my interest.

I’m drawing with blue tones on Corel Painter 2015 and I’m using charcoal on rough artists paper. On drawing 3 I like how you can see the texture of the paper on his hat and the stubble on his face. I started by getting my values and basic shapes down with the broad Charcoal and the Soft Charcoal. I’m adding details with the Soft and Hard Charcoal Pencils and a tapered blender.

He kinda reminds me of John Wayne in the first one, and according to my mom he looks like Marshal Matt Dillon.

I think he’s finally starting to look more like the picture. I’ve really struggled with getting his mouth right and his eyes are giving me a little trouble. I also have a tendency to exaggerate features, like making a ruggedly square jaw extra rugged, so I’m just trying to make sure all those things look right.

I’ve been working on it for a few hours and I’m thinking it’s a good time to step away from it for a while. I’ll come back to it later with fresh eyes.

What do you think . . . does he look like Robert Fuller?
